How to edit a video in your browser with no download
A simple walkthrough: upload a clip, cut it, add captions and text, and export, all in a free online video editor that runs in your browser.

Before you start
You need a computer with a modern browser, a stable connection for the first load, and the video file you want to edit. You do not need to install anything. Editing happens in the browser tab, so keep it open while you work.
Projects are saved in this browser. Sign in with Google to tie your account to your plan and your monthly transcription time.
Step 1: add your clip
Open the studio and drop your video into the Project tab. It shows all the media you have uploaded, with search and tags, so a long project stays easy to find things in. Drag the clip onto the timeline.
The timeline has tracks, like a professional editor. Video sits on the main track, and captions and text sit on their own rows, so nothing overlaps by accident.
Step 2: cut and trim
Press S to split the clip where the playhead is, or use the Blade tool (C) and click the cut point. Press Delete to remove a piece. Drag the edge of a clip to trim it. The arrow keys step the playhead, and Shift with an arrow key moves five seconds at a time.
Markers help you find your place. Press M to drop one, or use the flag button on the timeline. Click a marker on the ruler to jump back to it.
Step 3: add captions
Open the Captions tab and choose Auto-generate. Whisper runs in your browser, and the default model is small, so the first run takes a moment to download. You can switch to Deepgram with your own key for more languages.
Each caption has its own in and out time. Click a line to edit the words, split or merge lines, or delete one. When you are happy, export the captions as SRT, VTT, ASS, TXT or JSON if you need them outside Editr.
In the Text tab you can style the captions. Pick a preset, then change the font, colour, outline, shadow and entrance animation. Save your own styles so every new video matches your channel.
Step 4: add text, music and effects
Add a title from the Text tab. Double-click a text layer on the preview or the timeline to change its words. The Graphics tab has lower thirds and shapes, and the Effects tab has zoom, glow, blur and other looks. Effects can sit on one layer or on an adjustment layer above several layers.
For sound, use the Audio tab. You can search free sounds, set the volume of each track, add fades, and use the level presets to balance speech and music.
Step 5: export
Open the export dialog from the studio. Pick the size for your platform, for example vertical 9:16 for short-form video. Safe zones in the preview show where the title and social buttons sit, so text stays clear of the edges.
Export runs in the browser. Keep the tab open until the file is ready. Check the file once on your phone before you post it.
Common questions
Does the video leave my computer? Editing and export run in your browser. Auto captions use Whisper in the browser by default. If you choose Deepgram, the audio is sent to Deepgram to be transcribed, using the key you add.
What if my clip is long? Long videos take longer to caption and export. Cut the parts you need first, then add captions. Watch the monthly transcription time on the pricing page, since captions use it.
